I took yesterday off from work. A much deserved day off. As things are finally starting to get back to a normal pace at work, I decided I could use a day to do some fun things. I started off by spending about an hour in one of the local bookstores. I very much enjoy strolling through the aisles - seeing what's new, checking out classic literature, etc. I take my time and just absorb it all. I've always found this to be quite relaxing. And, I resisted the urge to add more books to my collection, as I have plenty to keep me occupied for some time. But, I did come away with more ideas -- which additions of certain books I'd like to own and what I want to add to my growing list of "must read."
After catching a coffee and snack at SB, I headed into DC to take a guided tour of East of Eden. I arrived early, so I sat outside admiring the beauty of the flowers near the Sackler Gallery, listened to a chapter of "The Count of Monte Cristo" on my iPod, and knit a few rounds on one of my socks in progress. It was a little chilly outside, but the sun was out... I very much enjoyed my tour. The exhibit was slightly different than I had envisioned, but it did not interfere with my enjoyment of it. Our guide was quite knowledgeable and that always adds to a successful tour. There is much I do not know about Chinese and other Asian history. I really must consider studying more about it.
I have also decided I have missed attending lectures on various topics: art, history, forensic science, etc. I renewed my membership to the Smithsonian Residents Associates and look forward to receiving the monthly catalog. I used to attend a couple of lectures every few months as recently as 5 years ago. Somehow, I stopped doing that. However, I realized its important to me to take advantage of the things the DC area has to offer and I'm starting here...
In knitting news, I have turned the heel on both my socks in progress. Not really worth taking photos at this point... I need to start planning for my next sock. I've already decided I want to knit something in a brown color palette, so I must pick which yarn is calling to me the most and then research to find a pattern that I feel fits the yarn.
Happy Easter!!
